Today in cuteness, staff at the Main Street branch of Toronto Public Libraries found a detailed apology note tucked into an Asterix comic book that had been repaired with tape. “I am sorry that a page ripped when it fell out of my bunk,” said the note, which was signed “Jackson.” We forgive you, Jackson. We forgive you.

The restrictions imposed by temporary High Occupancy Vehicle lanes put in place for the Pan and ParaPan Am Games will be lifted tonight, August 18, at 11 p.m. But don’t imagine that means clear driving from now on: As of August 19, a delayed construction project on the Gardiner will reduce highway lanes from three to two between Bathurst Street and Strachan Avenue.

In the final inquest report on the death of Donald Percival Thompson, who was fatally shot by police in 2013, Toronto Police Service has researched a device referred to as “The Alternative.” The report is on the agenda for Thursday’s Toronto Police Services Board meeting. The Alternative, nicknamed a “clown gun”, would attach to police firearms and slow down the first bullet fired from a police gun to about 20 per cent of its normal speed. The subsequent bullets fire at normal speed.
