If you’re keen to watch the Perseids meteor shower’s peak show, start making plans for tomorrow night—Wednesday, August 12. Whether you can get out of the city’s halo to watch or you’ll be leaning out your apartment window, Global has a few tips for ideal viewing. The weather forecast calls for clear skies.

Syrian-Canadians are worried that they won’t be able to visit family in their native country if Conservative leader Stephen Harper’s proposed law banning travel to regions controlled by terrorists gains traction. Harper was campaigning in Markham on Monday.

Mayor John Tory, Norm Kelly (Ward 40, Scarborough-Agincourt), and MPPs Cheri DiNovo and Tracy MacCharles are asking the city’s venues to turn away a sexist blogger who is planning an event on August 15. Daryush Valizadeh, otherwise known as Roosh V., crossed into Canada from the United States in spite of a 40,000-signature petition requesting that the blogger, who jokingly writes about identifying as a misogynist on his website, be stopped at the border because he would be inciting hatred at his events. He comes to Toronto from Montreal, where he may or may not have been able to find a venue that would host him.
