We’re one week into this year’s Pan Am Games, complete with lots of medals, a Kanye West debate, and Pachi. We reviewed seven of Toronto’s top Pan Am hopefuls to try and get you into the mood to cheer.

In 2012, modernist-architecture history Marie-Josée Therrien led a successful citizens’ appeal to overturn provisions that would have allowed Cadillac Fairview to erect signs on the outside of TD Centre’s Ernst & Young tower. Whether or not signage belongs on the TD Centre towers at all remains a point of heated debate.

Since their installation last fall, illuminated signage on the Ernst & Young tower of the TD Centre complex has been lamented by architecture aficionados—most recently, and publicly, in a column from The Globe and Mail. These signs aren’t just a design aberration. Given unresolved heritage considerations, the change probably shouldn’t have happened at all.

Three levels of government announced a cost-and-assess study of Toronto’s waterfront revitalization.
