- According to online boxing database Boxrec.com, Toronto is scheduled to host its first World Champion Boxing event in 30 years. The match, which is scheduled for September 11 at the Ricoh Coliseum, would see Montreal’s Adonis Stevenson defend his WBC light-heavyweight title against USA’s Tommy Karpency. Though Stevenson’s promoter, Yvon Michel, declined to comment ahead of an official announcement scheduled for next week, Stevenson has already taken to Twitter to hype about the fight.
- A pastor at the Light Korean Presbyterian Church in Toronto has made his first appearance since being detained in North Korea earlier this year. Reverend Hyeon Soo Lim appeared at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang to announce his guilt of carrying out criminal acts against the North Korean regime, stating, “The most serious crimes I have committed are that I severely slandered and impaired the supreme dignity and system of this country and perpetrated a scheme to overthrow the state.” Lim was detained by the authorities February 2nd after entering the Rason Special Economic Zone January 31st.
- In perhaps the cheesiest rebranding to date, Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishal took to Breakfast Canada this morning to promote Kraft Canada’s rebranding of iconic mac ‘n’ cheese now known simply (and now officially) as “KD.” The rapper took it as far as announcing a name change for one day, stating, “Because of their love and appreciation for the fans, they officially changed the name to KD so in solidarity with them, I am also changing my name to Kardinal D’Offishal, so I’m KD with KD.” True.
