If you are a person in possession of both functional ears and a working soul, chances are you’ve at some point bopped your head or otherwise felt things courtesy of the Buena Vista Social Club now-classic, Chan Chan. If said tune and its accompanying album prompted you to dig a little deeper into traditionally Cuban genres like son and bolero, you probably don’t need to read this because you’re already familiar with the Afro-Cuban All Stars.

Led by Juan de Marcos Gonzalez, the band might be best known for its 1997 album, A Toda Cuba le Gusta (literally, “all of Cuba likes it”), which was recorded at the Buena Vista Social Club sessions. Their backstory is interesting: basically, the band is supergroup much like Buena Vista, assembled of a group of prominent musicians including some like Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Pío Leyva, who were mainstays of the legendary 1950s Havana scene. So pack a cigar, don your breeziest linen slacks, and check out these legends at PANAMANIA tonight.
