ChocQuibTown
CIBC PANAMANIA Live @ The Distillery District
Monday, July 20 at 8:45 p.m. (1 Trinity Square)
Allow us for a moment to betray our own blatant editorial bias: we at Torontoist love our lady MCs. It should come as no surprise, then, that our PANAMANIA pick of the day is the Afro-Colombian hip-hop trio, ChocQuibTown. Headed up by multitalented psychologist-turned-rhymespitter (who, like our hometown pal Drake, also sings) Gloria “Goyo” Martínez, her husband Carlos, and her little brother Miguel, the group melds straight rap with Afro-Latin percussion. These Latin Grammy winners are a huge hit across Latin America, which means tonight’s show is sure to draw a huge crowd—and dance party. If this music doesn’t make your hips do things, call the doctor.
