Daily PANAMANIA Tip Sheet: Ana Tijoux

You know what’s world-class? PANAMANIA’s music festival programming. Here’s our guide to the must-see free music shows of the day, every day, during the fest.

Ana Tijoux
Panamania Live @ Nathan Phillips Square (100 Queen Street West)
Monday, July 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Ana Tijoux might not be a household name in Toronto, but she is just about everywhere else. The French-Chilean hip-hop maven has graced festival stages across the globe, from SXSW to London’s La Linea to, naturally, Mexico City superfest Vive Latino. While Rolling Stone named her “luscious, impeccably paced” fourth release, 2014’s politically provocative Vengo, one of the 40 best albums of the year, she’s long been an artist to watch. In fact, her 2009 solo album 1977 has been, and remains, an international dance-floor favourite, having received loving shout-outs from the likes of Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, among many, many others.

Following Tijoux’s 2014 Latin Grammy Record of the Year win for a collaboration with Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler, a free festival appearance by this international bosslady is rare indeed. Don’t be the sad panda who misses out.
