Three cyclists died in Toronto over the last couple of weeks, and yesterday morning about 100 cyclists gathered for a “die-in” protest in Nathan Phillips Square. Cycling advocates want at least 100km of separated bike lanes in the city, and for the city’s cycling budget to be increased to $20 million from $8 million.

In this week’s Extremely Canadian News, a Hamilton man was arrested for allegedly pouring maple syrup on a sidewalk. Police found “a small amount of marijuana” on the suspect, leading to him also being charged with possession.

Canada has a national horse (species), and it’s on the verge of extinction. Le Cheval Canadien, the species, is 350 years old this year: the species was born from 14 horses who were sent to New France by the French King Louis XIV in 1665. The horses were spread throughout the colony to religious orders and farmers, and each recipient was required to pass a foal along within three years. According to Vel Evans of Strategic Equine Inc., “Canada was built through the partnership with the Canadian Horse.”
