WHERE: Intersection of Yonge and College
WHEN: Friday June 26, 9 p.m.
WHAT: As the Trans March made its way south on Yonge Street, dozens of activists stopped traffic and lied in the middle of College Street in honour of those in the transgender and non-binary community who have died. For about five minutes, advocates chanted for more trans rights, while onlookers watched a small group lie motionless in the road. Those in the trans community are especially at risk of violence and suicide: In one survey, about 77 per cent of trans respondents said they had strongly considered suicide and trans people are nearly 30 per cent more likely to experience physical violence than those who are gender conforming.
