Happy the Subway Works Again Day! In the news: John Tory hearts the Gardiner, former TCHC CEO Gene Jones goes to Chicago, and the Toronto Sun willfully ignores something or other.

John Tory continued his Gardiner promotional tour with a stop at Metro Morning. The mayor stuck to his talking points, dismissing the recommendation of every living chief city planner and the medical officer of health. Discussing carding, Tory also defended his actions and perspective by telling host Matt Galloway, “I’ve received every award the black community has to give, and I’m not black.”
Remember former TCHC CEO Gene Jones, who left the organization after a scathing ombudsman’s report blasted his management practices? Well, he has landed on his feet. Jones was recently named the interim CEO of Chicago’s social housing authority, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s office touted that he was key to building 7,000 new units of housing during his tenure. A TCHC spokesperson was uncertain how he arrived at this number, and said the number is closer to 800.
Irony alert! The front cover of today’s Toronto Sun cites an expert saying Gardiner removal proponents “willfully [ignore] the facts.” But the cover image shows a congested part of the Gardiner that is not under debate. That’s awkward.
