It's Tuesday! Happy Tuesday! In the news: wicked overnight storm pics, an anti-poverty plan, and Dora Awards with a Torontoist twist.
Severe thunderstorms rocked the GTA last night, which means there is now at least one cool picture of of lighting striking the CN Tower on Reddit. Never change, local user-driven Internet. Never change.
Following a year of information-gathering from thousands of impoverished Torontonians, a new anti-poverty strategy launches today. Dubbed TO Prosperity: Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy, the 48-page report goes to the city’s executive committee on June 30, then to council July 7 and 8. The hope is that the strategy gets finalized in the fall, in time to be included in the 2016 budget.
The 2015 Dora Mavor Moore Awards recognized the best in Canadian theatre last night. Award winners include the Mirvish production of screen-to-stage musical Once, Suburban Beast’s Concord Floral, and Audience Choice winner Brantwood (support for which our own Steve Fisher may or may not have had a hand in rousing). Huzzah for Canadian theatre!
