The Chicago Blackhawks just won their third Stanley Cup in six years! Put another way, the Leafs just extended their Cup-less streak to 47 years! Consistency! Your Scarborough subway extension update: Ottawa and Ontario are sparring over funding. The federal government’s $660 million contribution to the much-criticized $3.56 billion three-stop subway extension will likely come from a Provincial allocation, not a national fund. The decision by Ottawa means less available funding for other Ontario priorities, a move that will surely anger the premier.

Your latest Union Station update: the big renovation is two years behind schedule and $160 million over budget. Originally slated to open this year and cost $640 million, it is now estimated to open in 2017 at a cost of $800 million. As a national historic site with numerous heritage elements and unreliable site drawings, the renovation has provided its fair share of constraints and surprises. Yesterday, the City’s government management committee also voted to defer a $55 million expansion of the PATH system planned as part of the project in order to limit costs.

Your carding update: the Province hopes to “regulate” the controversial police practice of carding, using much of the same recommendations the John Tory rejected until recently. The move to address the long-simmering issue comes on the heels of an evolution on the subject by Toronto’s mayor, condemnations by a long list of powerful Torontonians, and a call from NDP Deputy Leader Jagmeet Singh to ban the practice. Consultations will take place in the summer, and the new regulations could be in place as early as fall.
