- Carol Guy and her two canine companions, Will and Hank, are the city’s geese police, a group dedicated to reducing Toronto’s urban waterfowl. As featured in an adorable Star video, together the three scour beaches and other public areas in a city-wide effort to reduce populations of geese and all the other fun stuff that comes with it (that is, feathers and poop).
- Starting today, temporary high-occupancy vehicle lanes go into effect in advance of Toronto’s Pan Am Games. Lane restrictions run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. until July 27, and allow use for emergency vehicles, public transit, airport limos, taxis (Uber included), electric cars with green license plates, vehicles containing three or more passengers, and accredited Games vehicles. Restrictions change July 28, where vehicles containing two or more passengers will be allowed access to the HOV lanes.
- Councillor John Filion (Ward 23, Willowdale) has been announced as the city’s newest Arts Advocate. The announcement was made this afternoon by Mayor John Tory, who spoke at a press conference at St. James Park regarding art and funding within the city. Tory also announced support for a new Arts in the Parks project, and that funds will be raised for it at the Mayor’s Evening for the Arts on October 26.
