Sound Advice: Blake Carrington, D-Sisive, Brendan Philip

#ICYMI, a roundup of noteworthy musical happenings in the city some call The 6.

Blake Carrington

Blake Brings the Heat: Toronto emcee Blake Carrington has been hard at work putting the finishing touches on his anticipated new album titled Failure. In the meantime, he’s delivered a single and video to tide us over. Track “AHH YEAH” features production by fellow Toronto artist Junia-T and represents a catchy vibe just in time for the warmer weather. It’s hot, but no date set for the full-length release yet…

D Sisive

D-Sisive Gives a Treat: The Toronto rapper known as D-Sisive has always been prolific in terms of musical output, hitting us with tracks on a consistent basis over the past while. Subtitled aboyinaroom may, the new 11-track digital album I’ll Change Your Life If You Change Mine bundles previously released singles “Fat Cage,” “Violent J,” and “6-Inch God,” along with a couple of new joints and his trademark wordplay and quirky sensibilities.

Brendan Philip
Brendan Drops a Beat: While we’ve mentioned Brendan Philip in this space before, the recent single dropped by the “alt-R&B” singer is definitely worth some attention. Titled “The Feels” and co-produced by Jahmal Padmore and Keita Juma, the song melds an ethereal synth and percussion sensibility with a bit of reggae influence. His self-titled EP arrives this May 12.
