Extra, Extra: Pride Unveils 2015 Lineup, High Schoolers Defy Administrators, and Mammo’s Gotta Mammo

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

  • Pride Toronto unveiled its 2015 lineup earlier today, and there are a number of high-profile names that will be part of the festivities: John Waters, Pussy Riot, and Cyndi Lauper. Mayor John Tory will also participate in the parade, breaking the four-year tradition of Toronto’s mayor hiding from the event.
  • What do high schoolers do after administrators deem crop tops inappropriate, because they look “too much like a sports bra”? They wear crop tops. That’s what students at the Etobicoke School for the Arts did today in body-positive solidarity, which is pretty cool for students, and a principal’s worst nightmare.
  • Giorgio Mammoliti (Ward 7, York West) has decided to drop his lawsuit against the City of Toronto. City council imposed its most severe penalty against the six-term councillor in 2014, when it suspended his pay for three months—the equivalent of $26,000—for violating the code of conduct and holding an $80,000 non-campaign fundraiser, which lobbyists attended. Mammoliti maintains he did nothing wrong, and tells the Sun that he vows to hold another fundraiser to pay his legal costs, presumably because it worked out so well the last time.
