Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

  • It’s the season of Zdarsky! Or, something like that. Friend of Torontoist (and alter-ego of ex-National Post cartoonist Steve Murray) Chip Zdarsky has been announced as the writer of the Jughead series in a new Archie comics 75th anniversary revival. We profiled Zdarsky about his Howard the Duck revival in March, and named him as one of our heroes of 2014.
  • Toronto now has a Nelson Mandela Boulevard. Today, the stretch of University Avenue from Front to College streets was re-dedicated in honour of the late South African leader in a ceremony overseen by Mayor John Tory, representatives from Toronto city council, the Consul General of South Africa, and the Nelson Mandela Legacy Committee and students from Nelson Mandela Park Public school. The street sign unveiling that took place today was timed to coincide with the anniversary of Mandela’s installation as president of South Africa on May 10, 1994.
  • MLS superstar and Scarborough native Dwayne De Rosario is hanging up his cleats after playing for five different MLS teams. The Canadian soccer player will become an ambassador for the league. De Rosario is the all-time leading scorer for the Canucks and TFC, and generally recognized as the best attacker to ever play for the Canadian national team.

CORRECTION: 6:10 PM This article originally indicated Dwayne De Rosario played for two MLS teams in his career. He played for five. We regret the error.
