- According to a new report from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, one in five renters spends more than 50 per cent of their income on housing, which is a sad thing to know and think about. It gets even worse: with 850,00 lower-rent units lost in the past decade (and that number rising), market downturns will disproportionately affect those renters least financially able to roll with the shifts. So sniff-sniff-sniffle, more or less.
