Extra, Extra: Ex-Tory Staffers Hired by Uber, False Budget Claims from a Certain Councillor, and a Heroic Dog Rescue

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

Photo from John Tory’s Facebook page during the campaign…a campaign led in part by two now-Uberites.

  • Mayor John Tory is pretty tough on Uber. One might even argue that the ride-sharing app-based company harshes his mellow. But before you gasp, “Oh no, not his precious mellow!” be warned that it gets even better…or worse: the company has hired two of his former campaign staff. Both Nick Kouvalis, the comms guy first known for masterminding Rob Ford’s 2010 mayoral victory, and one-time Tory campaign policy chair John Duffy, have both been brought on to work for the company. Quick, someone fetch the mayor a fan.
  • The councillor from Ward 2 made some sort of weird music video or whatever, but as local Metro hero Matt Elliott rightly pointed out, it should be noted that he also sent false budget claims to his constituents. Just saying.
  •

  • In lighter news, the Brampton fire department made a successful overnight rescue yesterday of a dog who got trapped under a dock. Moka, a half-husky, half-miniature collie, got a little carried away chasing some ducks into water when she found herself under the dock and panicked. A firefighter involved in the rescue confirms that Moka was “very happy to be out” once freed.
