Extra, Extra: Air Canada’s Carry-On Crackdown, Stintz’s Astroturf War, and Kitty Stalls the QEW

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.

Screen shot from CTV, as our heroic kitty runs toward freedom.

  • In an effort to make air travel just a wee bit more hellish than it was already competitive with other airlines, Air Canada has issued a crackdown on overstuffed carry-on baggage to weed out passengers trying to sneak past the airline’s $25 check-in fee. From this point forward, the airline will be requiring passengers with carry-ons to have their bags weighed and tagged.
  • Former city councillor-turned-mayoral candidate Karen Stintz is waging a battle against City Hall over a bylaw that bans artificial turf from Toronto yards. Stintz is the proud owner of a totally fake front lawn, despite the threat of a $1400 fine, and thinks it takes all kinds of yards to make this crazy world turn—even plastic ones.
  • A wayward cat shut down traffic on the QEW today, drawing provincial police and animal-service representatives to the scene. Despite everyone’s best efforts, the cat got away (luckily, unscathed by traffic).
