- After a five-hour debate on Tuesday night, city council approved former Queen’s Park official Peter Wallace as the new city manager. Wallace replaces outgoing city manager Joe Pennachetti, and as the top civil servant he will lead a civil service of over 35,000 people with a $10-billion operating budget. Wallace was introduced to the media earlier in the day.
- Good news, non-sports fans! Pan Am Games officials released the schedule for what they call Panamania, which is the games’ cultural portion of the summer festivities. Among the performers will be the Flaming Lips, Tanya Tagaq, A Tribe Called Red, and the Roots.
- Do you remember when a private company piloted a transit service from Liberty Village to the downtown core, and how there were all of those media reports about it? Well, it turns out the service was more successful at generating publicity than they were at transporting riders, because they only sold 25 monthly passes. The service will not continue.
