TCHC Denied Lower Mortgage Rates by Crown Corporation
“The Toronto Community Housing Corporation is asking its main mortgage lender, the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), to renegotiate antiquated interest rates, most of which are in the double digits. But the beleaguered social housing agency is not getting the relief it wants.”

Deputy Mayor Wonders Why He Was Blocked on Twitter by the Chief Planner
“Referring to himself in the third person as the Deputy Mayor, Minnan-Wong mused why the “Madame Chief Planner”—the “Madame” is not part of her official title, it is a sign of the councillor’s courtesy—could possibly deign to block him on Twitter?

The Personal Is Political: Stephen Andrews at the AGO

“As a child of the 1960s fascinated by mass media, Andrews’ work is inseparable from the tumultuous times in which he’s lived. Abu Ghraib, 9/11, and the lingering echo of the AIDS crisis are all explored in the exhibition, which focuses on the last 15 years of his career.
The art is also inseparable from his personal history: Andrews has lived with HIV since the late 1980s, and he counted several friends serving in the military or embedded as journalists during the Iraq war. “[“POV”] is about a life lived,” explains Andrews. ‘There are all of these things in the world that also happened to me personally, and I’m trying to create a correlation between the two to rationalize what happened. But I’m a bit of a Forrest Gump, with a subjectivity behind how I engage with the headlines.'”

I Want Your Job: Samridhi Kundra, Jane’s Walk School Edition Coordinator

“Barely 22, Kundra, who moved to Toronto from Uganda four years ago for school, has been with Jane’s Walk since November of last year. Eight hours each week, she works with Toronto District School Board students at three high schools, as part of a team creating a classroom adaptation of the Jane’s Walk ethos. The purpose? Getting students to see themselves as part of the city’s larger story.”
