Metro Theatre Rock Climbing Gym Releases Renderings

Rock-climbing chalk will soon be replacing other, more nefarious, residues at Metro Theatre.

Koreatown will have a new place to get your rocks off.

A rock climbing gym called Basecamp is replacing Metro Theatre, the antiquated porn theatre on Bloor east of Christie. The company is billing itself as the most central rock-climbing gym in Toronto: the only one by a subway station, and, at 40 feet, the tallest rock-climbing gym in the city.

The rock-climbing surface will take up around 7,000 square feet of space.

Basecamp is also hoping to raise $25,000 in crowdfunding before the gym opens.

The company says it plans to keep the theatre’s marquee, but the wall facing Bloor Street needs reinforcement, as the marquee is pulling at it. The second floor and projector room on the third floor will be removed, the press release adds.
