Scene: Inside the New Ryerson Student Learning Centre

Defying Jane Jacobs, Ryerson looks to develop new ideas in new buildings.

WHERE: Ryerson Student Learning Centre, Yonge and Gould

WHEN: Tuesday, March 17, 5:30 p.m.

WHAT: While high school students are on March Break, Ryerson students were busy using their brand-spanking-new student centre to study in advance of final exams. Officially opened on February 23, the eight-storey, $112-million building that replaced the iconic Sam the Record Man store features floors with nature-based themes. The fourth floor, awash in green, is referred to as the Garden, the orange and red-hued fifth floor is referred to as the Sun, and the blue and sand-coloured sixth floor is the Beach. The Student Learning Centre is part of Ryerson’s expansion effort that has resulted in the Mattamy Athletic Centre and the Image Arts Building.
