Reel Toronto: Suits – Season Three (Part One)
The third season of Suits does another round creating a mini-Manhattan in our own Financial District.
Toronto’s extensive work on the silver screen reveals that, while we have the chameleonic ability to look like anywhere from New York City to Moscow, the disguise doesn’t always hold up to scrutiny. Reel Toronto revels in digging up and displaying the films that attempt to mask, hide, or—in rare cases—proudly display our city.
Ah, Suits. These fine fellows keep coming back to town and somehow making the same few blocks centred around the Financial District look like good ol’ New York. This time out we’ll have a look at the show’s third season (the fifth is going to be starting filming soon) and see where they go to.
So, as we’ve already established, the interiors of the Pearson Hardman (and Spectre!) law firm are merely a really nice set but the exteriors…
…and lobby are the Bay Adelaide Centre.
They certainly do a fine job making it all photogenic.
They also shoot outside there quite often. They might be there right now, for all we know. Here we are out on Bay with our very favourite prop: the ubiquitous USA Today box.
Sometimes, but very rarely, airport shoots are actually done at Pearson, but the next best thing is the Direct Energy Centre…
…which, you know, does look very airporty.
One random cool thing about this season of Suits is that it has ongoing storylines with not one…
…but two Game of Thrones cast members.
Speaking of cool actors, Gary Cole plays a federal lawyer…
…who, though he isn’t in this particular shot, works at this building, actually Metro Hall.
After a few episodes with those lobby shots, we do get to the exterior, eventually.
One thing they do a lot of on this show is at restaurants, some of which we can actually identify.
This handsome joint is Scarpetta, at the Thompson Hotel.
This outdoor restaurant…
…with a lovely view, is also at the Thompson; the rooftop bar.
This place, which is suppposed to be a fancy steakhouse…
…we confess, we’re not quite sure about.
The fourth episode has some good stuff going on. It starts with Harvey Spectre out for a jog, going past this TTC pole…
…and past a Shoppers Drug Mart, neither of which are commonly found in Manhattan.
This seems to place us on King, just west of Yonge.
But, even more wonderfully, in the same episode, we get this scene which actually features one of the characters saying something like, “Fancy meeting you here in Toronto.” Yes, it’s just so random, folks. What are the odds? Really, if you were wondering what their “We’re actually in Toronto,” shot is, this one has it all.
There is also the partaking of potent potables in the same episode here, in the Consort Bar at the King Eddie.

…is actually the Liberty Grand.
We haven’t looked at restaurants in a while!
This one is the ol’ Lakeview.
And, hey, it’s our favourite USA Today box again! We just love the little guy. Here he’s outside the Trump Hotel. Aw, and he brought his friend “Fake US Post Box!”
There are several scenes this year during the day and night on this roof, which does actually look like it’s at Bay Adelaide.
A rare step away from the Manhattan hullbaloo, this quiet place is the quad of University College.
It goes by in slo-mo…
…but this Episode 8 location is the lobby of Le Germain Hotel, on Mercer Street.
And one more restaurant for the road…
…this sassy beanery is actually Buonanotte, also on Mercer.
And that brings us to the end of the first half of Season 3. But we’ll be back because Suits is the gift that keeps on giving.
