The Toronto Police Service has issued a statement that the famous mystery tunnel by York University was dug for “personal reasons,” and that there was no criminal intent or threat.
As a result of the overwhelming public attention paid to the story, police received helpful information on Friday that enabled them to identify the two men behind the tunnel. However, they did not issue any further details, including what the personal reasons may be.
TPS says they are satisfied with the men’s account. No charges will be laid, and the investigation is considered closed.
