- In not-so-great news for local pee-pees and wee-wees: Toronto’s seeing a major resurgence in gonorrhea. And, to make matters worse, the sexually transmitted infection is becoming harder to treat with antibiotics. Last year, Ontario saw 5,825 reported cases of gonorrhea―the highest in a decade. Toronto Public Health nurse practitioner Natalie Fawcett told Global News today that the increase is due at least partly to widespread misinformation: “I see a fair number of people coming in who swear up and down that their only possible exposure was oral sex. And I think a lot of people don’t realize that things like Chlamydia and gonorrhea can be contracted orally.”
- Luxury retailer Saks Fifth Avenue is set to open a four-level store on the side of the Hudson’s Bay building by next spring. Retail Insider reports that the store will carry “a variety of premium cosmetic brands” and a 5,500-square-foot restaurant operated by Pusateri’s. Construction on the project is underway.
- Renderings were revealed last night for the tower to replace Stollery’s at One Bloor West, and if all goes according to plan, the new building is going to be super tall: an 80-storey mixed-use condo second only to the CN Tower in height. The design, by Foster Partners and CORE Architects, features winter gardens, expanded sidewalks, and a “steel exoskeleton.”
