- Following the City’s approval of 54 shelter beds for LGBTQ youth across the city, Councillor Joe Cressy (Ward 20, Trinity-Spadina) has announced the opening of a new 25-bed transitional house for LGBTQ youth on Walmer Road in the Annex. According to Cressy, the YMCA-supported facility “will offer youth a chance to stabilize their lives, learn new skills, access education, employment and housing supports while living in a safe and supportive environment.”
- Mayor John Tory is headed to Austin to lead a delegation to the South by Southwest music and arts festival to learn how to bump Toronto’s music scene up to the next level. “It’s like a superpower we have yet to deploy in the way that some other cities,” he told the Star before demonstrating to photographers that he has absolutely no idea how to hold a violin. It’s OK, brother. It’s OK.
- Finally, the Annex Cat Rescue is hosting an adopt-a-thon tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Pet Uno on College Street, just in advance of kitten season. According to Toronto Cat Rescue, there are an estimated 100,000 stray and feral cats in the city of Toronto. Don’t let Rufus down, Toronto.
