- In April, Mayor John Tory will host former Toronto mayors in a cocktail reception to “drink off” the debt racked up by former mayoral candidate David Socknacki during his political campaign. As the invitation, signed by former mayor David Miller, explains: “democracy is expensive.”
- TTC head Andy Byford has fired two TTC execs following a report on problems related to the Spadina subway extension. Chief capital officer Sameh Ghaly and chief project manager Andy Bertolo have been dismissed from the TTC, and the project will be taken over by Tony Baik on an interim basis.
- Scarborough Conservative MP Roxanne James is catching heat for an anti-gay letter she wrote to the Toronto Sun in 1999, which condemns gay marriage and gay families as a source of “great concern.” The letter resurfaced on Twitter and Reddit this week and caused a bit of a social-media stir. Prime Minister Harper has yet to address the comments.
