- If you’ve been outdoors to endure Mother Nature’s corporal punishment today, you’ll know it’s cold. But maybe you didn’t realize that it was record-breakingly cold. Today’s 6 a.m. temperature of -21.6 C at Pearson International Airport beat the previous February 23 low of -19.4 C from 1972. So, congratulations: you’ve just felt history. Try not to lose a finger!
- Former Trinity-Spadina MP, city councillor, and mayoral candidate Olivia Chow has just accepted a three-year visiting professorship at Ryerson’s faculty of arts, beginning March 1. The part-time post will see Chow lecturing primarily on civic engagement and activism. With the gig, she’ll be following in the footsteps of her late husband, Jack Layton, who was a tenured professor in the university’s politics and public administration program before entering politics.
- Finally, Wayne Gretzky thinks that Barrie MP Patrick Brown should be the next Ontario PC leader.
