Tory speaks about the budget in January 2015.
- In an effort to wring infrastructure money from the federal government, Mr. Tory goes to Ottawa. Over the next two days the mayor will meet with transportation minister Lisa Raitt, opposition leader Thomas Mulcair, and Liberal leader Justin Trudeau to pitch his SmartTrack, housing, and water infrastructure plans. Asking for billions of dollars in funding will be an uphill battle, though, particularly as Tory said he’s unwilling to raise taxes until other levels of government pony up. If he won’t take the political risk, why should they?
- An Etobicoke audience attending a recent Fifty Shades of Grey screening got wet and bothered, but not in the good way. Pipes burst at the Queensway Cineplex on Monday, drenching audiences who were there to see Fifty Shades and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (separately; they weren’t seeing both films). On the plus side, these jokes were really easy.
- In booze news you can use, the Province promises that major Beer Store and LCBO reforms are on the way. In the meantime, minor changes that were in the works, like kiosks in grocery stores, are on hold until said reforms are sorted out. The changes are in response to a report issued by former TD Bank CEO Ed Clark that urged Queen’s Park to better monetize the Beer Store and LCBO.
