Duly Quoted: MP Steven Fletcher, on the Supreme Court’s Ruling to Lift the Ban on Doctor-Assisted Suicide

Parliament's first quadriplegic MP reacts to the Supreme Court's landmark ruling.

“This is a historic day, a momentous day…. This ruling will reduce suffering.”

Conservative MP Steven Fletcher (Charleswood-St.James-Assiniboia-Headingley) reacts to the landmark Supreme Court of Canada decision that lifted the ban on physician-assisted suicide. After a car accident at age 23, Fletcher became quadriplegic, and he has become one of the country’s leading advocates for the right to die with dignity. The Supreme Court ruling responds to a case brought to it by two BC women, Kay Carter and Gloria Taylor. Both have died since the legal case began.
