Duly Quoted: Kathleen Wynne, on Her Qualifications

The premier defends her credibility while undermining Monte McNaughton's.

“What is it that especially disqualifies me for the job that I’m doing? Is it that I’m a woman? Is it that I’m a mother? Is it that I have a master’s of education? Is it that I was a school council chair? Is it that I was the minister of education? What is it exactly that the member opposite thinks disqualifies me from doing the job that I’m doing?”

—Kathleen Wynne responds to PC leadership candidate Monte McNaughton on the floor of Queen’s Park. McNaughton, a social conservative, objects to the proposed update to the sex education curriculum, which has not been changed in over 15 years. In a scrum after the session, Education Minister Liz Sandals referred to McNaughton’s remarks and their implication as “quite homophobic.”
