| FIELD NOTES: | Years ago, in an effort to stand out in the dating field, a friend of mine gave himself the exhausting challenge of making all his dates quirky and unique. One of his ideas was to arrange picnics on random rooftops around the city. Since I’m something of an enthusiast of the quirky and unique, he came to me for suggestions on how to bring this idea to fruition. I suggested he use graffiti as his rooftop guide. Any building with graffiti on the roof is a building with rooftop access (though not necessarily safe, and definitely not easy or legal, to access). To no one’s surprise, the prospect of breaking the law while risking their necks to dine on a filthy roof with a near-stranger did not have his dates swooning. Some things are better left as romanticized ideas. In conclusion: rooftops—great for graffiti, not so good for romance. |
