FIELD NOTES: Parkdale is transforming faster than you can say “gentrification,” but hopefully its underbelly of street artists will always have a home there. Say what you will about these hoodlums—people love the vivacious atmosphere these ne’er-do-wells bring to the streets. Ironically, it’s in part the very hipness of Parkdale’s street art that’s bringing in the moneyed folk and displacing those with less in the bank. Hopefully a balance will be struck; hopefully new and old Parkdale will be able to coexist—lest the artists migrate further west (although it’s hard to imagine the likes of this monster gracing a wall in Etobicoke or Brampton).

Once a week, Vandalist features some of the most interesting street art and graffiti from around Toronto. Find something great? Email [email protected].
