Get Ready to Lace Up Your Skates

Outdoor rinks will be opening across the city this weekend.

It’s a well-known fact that cold weather is more manageable and enjoyable when you spend at least some of it trying to balance on a pair of skates. This weekend, you’ll be able to glide (or teeter, as the case may be) across a variety of icy surfaces, when the City opens over a dozen of its outdoor rinks for the skating season.

You’ll have your pick of 15 skating destinations, from the ever-popular Nathan Phillips Square, to the new covered rink and skating path at Greenwood Park, to the ice-skating trail at Colonel Samuel Smith Park.

The City will be opening 51 rinks this year—those that won’t be up and running this weekend will be operational as of November 29 or 30.

And if you’re up for more organized skating options, you can check out the City’s programmed activities, which include skating lessons for beginners and scheduled shinny sessions.

Most rinks will be open seven days a week between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.—but hours of operation do vary, so you should verify the schedule of your local rink on the City’s website.

Here’s where you’ll be able to bundle up and take to the ice this coming weekend:

CORRECTION: November 21, 2014, 6:40 PM This post originally indicated that the Alexandra Park/Harry Gairey rink would be opening this weekend. The City has since provided updated information: this rink will not be opening until November 29.
