Extra, Extra: Subway Evacuations, Remembrance Day “Deals,” and Military Memorials
Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.
- There are subway delays—and then there are subway delays that involve having to get out of a train in the middle of a tunnel in near-total darkness in the company of a thousand other commuters. That’s what happened Monday night at about 6 p.m., after a personal injury at track level meant power was cut to a train on the University line, just south of Museum. The video is not recommended for those who do not relish the idea of having to evacuate a train in the dark in the company of a thousand people.
- A Toronto veteran won an apology from the Gap today, after he complained that the store’s “Remembrance Day deal“—a vest for the low, low price of $19.99—might not be the best or most appropriate way to honour those who’ve fought and died. “We fell short in our recent Gap Factory marketing email,” said a company spokesperson, “and we are committed to doing better in the future.”
- There are 6,696 military memorials located throughout Canada—and thanks to this map, which uses data from the Government of Canada’s National Inventory of Canadian Military Memorials, you can easily find out exactly where they are and what they involve.
