Behind the Scenes With the National Ballet

Celebrate World Ballet Day by taking in a livestream of the company's rehearsals.

Today is the inaugural World Ballet Day, and to mark the occasion, five of the most acclaimed ballet companies in the world have gotten together to give dance lovers a glimpse of the work that goes on behind the scenes.

The Australian Ballet, Bolshoi Ballet, the Royal Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada will be streaming video live from their rehearsal studios throughout the day: until 2 p.m., viewers will be able to catch rehearsals of the National Ballet’s upcoming performances of Manon and Nijinsky.

Its portion of the proceedings will also involve Denise Donlon, principal dancer Heather Ogden, and former principal dancer Aleksandar Antonijevic in conversation with artistic director Karen Kain, executive director Barry Hughson, music director and principal conductor David Briskin, and other performers with the company.
