Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.
- The NDP socialist caucus has called on Andrea Horwath to resign as the leader of the provincial NDP, claiming her recent campaign was the NDP’s worst “since Bob Rae attempted to defend his infamous social contract in 1995.” Horwath played down the criticism today, saying, “Coming out of the election I’ve had a lot of feedback”—and she’s now announced that she’ll be leading a charge against the sale of government assets that will reflect the “fundamental values” of her party.
- Mike Tyson had some kind words for Rob Ford yesterday, and some slightly less kind words for CP24’s Nathan Downer today. During an interview in which Downer asked the former boxer about his endorsement of Rob Ford, Tyson called the reporter “a rat piece of shit.”
- David Soknacki, who last night dropped out of the mayoral race, sent out a farewell tweet earlier today: “Thanks again to my volunteers and all of you who work to make our City a better place,” he wrote. “So long and thanks for the fish.” This tweet suggests two things that are by no means mutually exclusive: (1) he is a gracious individual who wanted to publicly acknowledge the efforts of both his volunteers and all those Torontonians who dream of and work toward a brighter future, and (2) he is a super-intelligent dolphin who is poised to leave Earth because the planet is about to be destroyed so that a hyperspace bypass can be created in its place.
