Duly Quoted: Karen Stintz, on Mayor Ford’s Lewd Remarks

Mayoral candidate Karen Stintz responds to news of sexually inappropriate comments made about her by Mayor Rob Ford.

“If Rob Ford was truly sorry, he would have apologized to me last night. And I’m not interested in an empty apology—we’ve heard too many of those. Rob Ford needs to get help.”

-Mayoral candidate Karen Stintz, reacting to sexual comments made about her by the mayor in a recording released yesterday by the Toronto Sun. In the recording, made at a Royal York Road bar on April 28, a clearly intoxicated Ford makes misogynistic, homophobic, and racist remarks—and refers to wanting to “jam” his political colleague. Stintz spoke of being “shocked and embarrassed” by the mayor’s comments, and emphasized that “there is no place in this city for sexism or homophobia, especially in the mayor’s office.” She did not, though, call for his resignation.
