This Baby Gorilla Needs a Name
Because people can't just call her "OHMYGODILOVEYOUBABYGORILLA" forever.
It seems like only yesterday the Toronto Zoo was asking for the public’s help naming a tiny, furry, and adorable creature. But that was a totally different situation, in that the creature in question was a baby polar bear, and what we have here is a baby western lowland gorilla.
She was born on January 10, 2014, to mother Ngozi and father Charles, and she has an older brother named Nassir, who was born in 2009. The zoo is asking the public to come up with name suggestions that begin with “N”—not because it’s fonder of mother and brother than of father Charles, but because it’s a tradition at the zoo for the names of gorilla babies and mothers to share a first initial. You have until Tuesday, April 22, 2014, to settle on and submit your preferred name (an “N” has already been entered for you on the form so you won’t be tempted to get up to any funny business).
