Vandalist: Free Public Library

Books for all!

FIELD NOTES: We know what you’re thinking: “But Vandalist, the official Toronto Public Library is already free.” In theory, that is absolutely correct. In practice, that is debatable. Anyone who says they’ve never had an overdue book is a liar. In fact, if you’re anything like us, you’ll check out a really ambitious book only to have, six months later, a collection agency sending you notices while you’re barely a quarter of the way through. A system like the one pictured is perfect. The selection may be limited, but there are no due dates, no overdue fees, no cards to keep track of, you can donate new books, and, best of all, it’s art! (But seriously, our public library system is awesome. Go! Read books to your heart’s content! Support our libraries in all their forms!)

Once a week, Vandalist features some of the most interesting street art and graffiti from around Toronto. Find something great? Email [email protected].
