Scene: Three-Alarm Fire in Yorkville

Firefighters battled a blaze for hours today in downtown Toronto.

WHERE: 84 Yorkville Avenue

WHEN: Wednesday, January 22, 12:30 p.m.

WHAT: A 150-year-old building in Yorkville consumed by a three-alarm blaze that broke out around 8:30 this morning. Fighting the flames proved particularly difficult, because the fire moved into the building’s walls and roof—and because cold weather created challenges, such as a frozen hydrant. The building is home to various businesses, including a restaurant and a spa. There were no reports of injuries, and there’s no word as yet about what could have triggered the blaze. As of this afternoon, crews were still on site to deal with remaining smouldering spots.
