Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not to miss.
- Because cuteness defies the cold, and we could all use some cold-defying cuteness right now, we give you: a frolicking, snow-loving panda courtesy of the Toronto Zoo.
- Did you know that beets are good for more than just tasting delicious, being healthy, and looking upliftingly colourful on a plate? Well, it’s true: they also happen to produce juice that can be sprayed on roads to help deal with ice—which is why City trucks carrying beet juice are working (and thawing) the streets of Toronto.
- Someone is petitioning the White House to have Mayor Rob Ford declared an honorary U.S. citizen, because he “is clearly a hero of humanity who deserves the very best.” It must be some kind of comment on today’s political environment that we cannot be 100 per cent certain this is tongue in cheek. (It has already gained 2 of the 100,000 signatures it’s seeking.)
- Because most of us aren’t responding to this weather by wanting very much to spend all our leisure time outside, we thought this might come in handy: A.V. Club‘s list of “16 memorable films set during cold snaps.” If nothing else, it will remind you that at least (probably) you’re not currently staying at an abandoned hotel in Colorado during the off-season.
