Duly Quoted: Terri-Jean Bedford

“Is paying to get whipped by me, where no injury results, more violent or more abhorrent than being blindsided by a 300-pound lineman whose job it is to play football?”

—Terri-Jean Bedford, Toronto dominatrix and an applicant in the court challenge that resulted in the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent decision to strike down prostitution laws, in an article outlining six questions she’d like the prime minister to answer before the government tackles the rewriting of prostitution laws. She believes a real conservative “respects the rights of consenting citizens to privacy in the bedroom or dungeon,” and asks the prime minister to reflect on issues related to indecency, the definition of sex work, and violence, among others.
