WHERE: Toronto Zoo
WHEN: Friday, October 18
WHAT: The news has been very National Geographic this week in Toronto. First the Ripley’s Aquarium opened after months of delay, then the zoo’s three elephants finally left on their journey for a sanctuary in California. The zoo had one new addition to report soon after though: a Masai giraffe was born on Thursday, to 23 year old mother Twiga. The baby—it’s a girl—hasn’t yet been named, and isn’t ready for public appearances or media photos, but the zoo did forward a shot of the newborn. In giraffe facts: mothers give birth standing up, the zoo tells us, and babies are typically two metres tall.
