These Are the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games’ Mascot Finalists

Will a deformed beaver represent our city in 2015?

Bear in mind that all of these designs were inspired by contest submissions from children aged 16 and under. Even so, we’ll admit to being a little perplexed by this group of finalists for official mascot of Toronto’s 2015 Pan Am Games. (All six choices were revealed earlier today.)

Is that a porcupine? And a beaver with a maple-leaf-shaped skull deformity? And do you see the humiliation in the moose’s eyes? And who are those two pixie creatures? Why are their hats alive?

The final choice of mascot will be up to the public. Online voting opens on April 22. Our write-in selection would be the bald raccoon of Parkdale, but the rainbow-tailed raccoon, above, would be a good second choice.
