Extra, Extra: Canseco, Kensington, and a Bad Cop

Every weekday’s end, we collect just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Jose Canseco’s musings about running for mayor of Toronto are now doubly moot: not only is the former Blue Jay not eligible to run (he’s not Canadian), but the courts have all but ensured that Mayor Rob Ford will finish out his term, meaning there almost certainly won’t be an election until 2014. Nevertheless, Canseco will be appearing on CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes tonight, at 8:30 p.m., like other Toronto political figures before him. A preview video is embedded above.
  • The owners of a vacant Kensington Market storefront are taking an interesting approach to finding a new tenant: they’re asking neighbourhood residents what kind of shop would be a good addition to the street.
  • A Toronto police officer, who tried to claim in court that a masseuse forcibly gave him a blow job while he was inspecting her spa, got his comeuppance today: a judge convicted him of sexually assaulting the woman.
