Extra, Extra: Old Metropasses, New Menschies, and Wrong Stamps

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • Nathan Ng has been saving his used Metropasses for more than a decade. Above is a picture of what the lot of them look like when he fans them out on a table. Impressively rainbowy! Good job, TTC designers. There are a bunch more photos on Ng’s blog.
  • The Grid’s second-annual Menschies are out today. They give our heroes of 2012 a run for their money.
  • It’s the story that just won’t quit, even though it probably should have, days ago. The Ikea monkey is back in headlines once again, as an Oshawa court prepares to decide whether little Darwin can return to his owner’s home for the holidays, where he would presumably be made to caper across the carpet in a tiny Santa suit. Run away from the weird lady, Darwin! Run as far and as fast as your monkey legs can carry you! Or better yet, climb.
  • Scarborough MPP Brad Duguid just accepted a staffer’s resignation for using the wrong stamps on some Christmas cards, in violation of provincial rules. The minister has got the philatelist vote locked up, now, for sure.
