Duly Quoted: Ontario Superior Court Justice John Macdonald
“I find that the plaintiff attempted to mislead this court about his past fraudulent conduct. Having considered this in the context of the whole of the evidence, I am left with serious doubt about the credibility and reliability of his testimony, particularly where it is in conflict with other credible evidence, but also where it is not confirmed or supported by other evidence.”
—Macdonald, the judge who presided over the libel lawsuit against Rob Ford, dismissed the case yesterday, giving the mayor a legal victory to close out the year. In this quote from Macdonald’s decision, now available online, he explains one of his reasons for siding with Ford: the court found that the plaintiff, restaurateur George Foulidis, wasn’t a particularly credible witness. He once helped to defraud one of his mother’s creditors. More pertinent to the matter at hand, he failed to convince the judge that he was the director of Tuggs Inc., the company that owns Foulidis’ restaurant operation.
