Extra, Extra: Farewell Spadina Bus, Farewell Twinkies

Every weekday’s end, Extra, Extra collects just about everything you ought to care about or ought not miss.

  • The TTC announced today that Spadina Avenue’s streetcar line will be back in business on Sunday after months of being shut down for repairs and upgrades. So say goodbye to the Spadina Bus…for now. There’s more construction scheduled for summer.
  • Yorkdale Mall opened its new expansion to the public today. It seems pretty nice.
  • Hostess, the U.S. company that makes Twinkies (among other types of suspiciously spoil-resistant snack cakes), appears to be going out of business. It’s not clear what this means for Toronto, since certain Hostess products—like Wonder Bread—are made for the Canadian market by third-party companies who license the branding and recipes. Also, the Hostess brands could be bought up by other companies, so there’s a chance the Ding Dongs will continue to flow, regardless.
